Passive income – isn’t it the dream of almost every aspiring online business owner?

Take a look into your crystal ball for a minute:

You can go on vacation and still get a monthly paycheck.

You’re sick or injured and can’t work – but the bills still get paid and there’s plenty of food on the table.

You see your children grow up right before your eyes and you never miss a game, recital, or “Donuts with Daddy” because you’re at home - instead of slaving away in a cubicle from 8 to 5 each day.

Why do so few people ever achieve this type of lifestyle?

The reasons are many, but the one that’s most prominent is people simply have no idea of the opportunities available to them. They can see the end result but are unable to conceptualize how they get there.

In today’s article, we’re going to be talking about “the how” of creating passive income. Specifically (since this is a site about SEO), we’ll be talking about why SEO is one of the most powerful tools you can use to reach create financial freedom for you and your family.

Passive Income – Is there such a thing? REALLY?

Before we talk about SEO, let’s start back at the concept of passive income. Most people still see this as a fantasy – despite the fact that Robert Kiyosaki has sold millions of books telling us how real it is. Removing the obstacles that are keeping you from creating passive income and shattering some myths most people have about the whole idea of it is the place to start.

Passive income DOES exist. However, passive income for an extended period of time can be difficult to attain.

When most people think about passive income, they think of something they don’t have to touch – ever. Their perception is day after day, month after month, year after year, their bank accounts continue to grow without them having to do a thing!

With beliefs like this, it’s no wonder most people never become financially secure!  That’s not how it works.

Now, this isn’t to say those types of passive income are non-existent. Depending upon how much capital you have to begin with, there are a wide variety of investments which - when used correctly - yield significant passive income over a long period of time.

For now, realize that passive income is like a tree. After you put in the time and energy to grow your tree, it yields fruit with minimal effort. Watering and trimming the tree regularly is all you need to do.

If you choose to use SEO to earn passive income, understanding this concept is crucial. Yes, with SEO you can earn a quality passive income. However, you still need to put in the time to water and trim your passive money tree. If you don’t - your passive income will disappear taking your financial freedom along with it.

SEO and the Art of "Money While you Sleep"

By using SEO, it’s possible to rank on page #1 in Google for whatever keywords you’re targeting. This opens the door to a virtual flood of “targeted traffic,” which also opens the door to passive income.

Think about it: you’re sitting on page #1 of Google for your keyword. Whenever anyone searches your keyword, they’ll see your website first.

For example, if your website is sitting at rank #2 on page #1 and your keyword gets 1,000 searches per day, you’ll likely get close to 400 of those searches landing on your website each and every day.

And Google doesn’t sleep.

People will be searching your keywords 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They’ll be searching your keywords on holidays when you’re sick and during your child’s piano recital. As long as your website continues to rank on page #1, you’ll get a steady flow of targeted traffic from Google.

Of course, traffic doesn’t equal passive income. Without a system to convert traffic into sales and repeat business, you have a tree that yields less than a bountiful harvest. However, the best marketing funnel ever created is completely useless without a steady flow of traffic pouring into it. Your website must load quickly and the design must be user-friendly and inviting. Your email courses and newsletters must be filled with value. Your products must be high-quality and worth what the customer is paying for them - which will bring in positive testimonials.

Simply put, SEO won’t help you with monetizing but it WILL help you get the traffic you need to create passive income.

Most people realize Google is a fantastic way to get targeted traffic to your website. But few people realize just how valuable SEO is for passive income and creating financial freedom.

Of course, there is a “catch” – if you fail to water your passive income tree by continuing to refine your SEO strategies on a regular basis, your competition will catch up to you, and eventually overtake you, robbing you of the passive income you worked hard to build. Luckily, once you’re already ranking on page #1, it becomes exponentially easier to maintain your rankings.
