Keywords Cloud Test

What is it?

A keywords cloud is a visual rendering of the most frequently used terms on your page, with more frequent words drawn in larger text. It is a diagnostic visualization rather than a graded SEO check: the goal is to give you an immediate at-a-glance view of which words dominate your content, so you can confirm the visible body matches your intended topic. If the largest words in the cloud are not the ones you would expect for the page's subject, that mismatch is a clear signal to revisit the copy.

Word clouds are useful precisely because they are imprecise. They reveal patterns that a numeric frequency table can miss, such as a single peripheral term unexpectedly outweighing your primary keyword, or a cluster of related words that together signal a topic stronger than any individual word does. For content audits, blog post reviews, and quick checks after a major edit, the cloud format communicates the page's topical center of gravity in a glance.

What to look for in the cloud

  • The largest word should match your intended topic: if your marathon shoe review is dominated by "menu" or "subscribe", the chrome is overwhelming the body copy.
  • Related terms cluster: a strong page on a single topic shows several related words at similar sizes, reinforcing the theme.
  • Surprises warrant a closer look: a prominent word you did not expect may indicate either an opportunity (you naturally rank for it) or a content drift (you wrote about something other than what you intended).
  • Brand terms appearing too often can signal that the page reads more like an advertisement than a useful resource.

This test pairs well with the Most Common Keywords Test, which gives you the underlying frequency table, and the Keywords Usage Test, which checks whether the dominant terms appear in your title and description. Together they form a quick on-page audit you can run on any important page in under a minute.
