Competitor Domains Test
What is it?
A competitor domains analysis surfaces up to ten domains that compete for similar organic search results as the analyzed URL, ranked by overall domain authority. The score reflects the volume and quality of links pointing to each competing domain, on a scale from 0 to 1000, where higher means a more established and authoritative site. The result is a fast competitive snapshot you can use to benchmark where your site stands and which competitors are worth studying in depth.
Why knowing your real competitors matters
The competitors you have in business are not always the competitors you have in search. Two sites can sell similar products yet target different keywords, and two sites in different industries can compete fiercely for the same informational query. Understanding the actual organic competitive landscape lets you focus your SEO effort on the right benchmarks: their content depth, their keyword targeting, their backlink profiles, and the gaps you can exploit.
Domain authority is a useful directional signal but not a destination. A high-authority competitor probably outranks you on broad commercial queries simply because the domain has more accumulated trust, but on specific long-tail queries a thinner site with sharper topical focus can win. Treat the competitor list as a research input: study what the high-authority domains do well, then look for the queries where your topical relevance can outweigh raw authority.
How to use the results
- Pick two or three direct competitors whose content you respect, and audit how they structure their best-performing pages.
- Compare backlink profiles to identify referring domains you could plausibly earn links from.
- Identify under-served queries where competitors rank thin or outdated content you can outclass with depth.
- Track competitor movement over time: a competitor surging on your target keywords is an early signal worth investigating.
This test is a competitive intelligence input, not a graded SEO score. Pair the domain list with manual review of the top-ranking pages on your most important queries to build a complete picture of the landscape.
