http://www.thevolunteerweb.org/The Volunteer WebWhat is The Volunteer Web ? The Volunteer Web is a complete volunteering platform that enables users to find and arrange volunteering opportunities at NGOs based on their interests without tedious phone calls, tiresome Google searches or anything of the sort. It all started back in 2015, when we wanted to volunteer with NGOs whose objectives echoed ours, but found it difficult to find any that matched our interests and abilities easily. Our knowledge of the opportunities we had were limited to those that we knew of through contacts: friends, family and the like. We were feeling the lack of an efficient system to connect us to NGOs - we simply wanted to volunteer without running from pillar to post! We conducted a survey to get an idea of how many people wish to volunteer Vs. how many actually do so. Our survey confirmed our suspicion. Over 90% of all individuals are extremely interested in volunteering at NGOs. However, a mere 15% have actually volunteered at an NGO, and of that 15% only 8% to do so regularly - usually if their school or organisation offers such avenues. Our survey further showed that nearly 70% of all people who haven't ever volunteered at an NGO, found the cumbersome process of contacting NGOs themselves, a major deterrent because unless they had contacts, it was close to impossible to volunteer anywhere. We believed that creating a platform to connect NGOs with prospective volunteers would immensely improve the situation, by allowing volunteers to find causes they were interested in, as well help NGOs find people genuinely concerned with their cause. Since then, we have found a few platforms that attempted to match NGOs with volunteers. The drawback was that they stopped there, leaving the system still incomplete. We realised that even though the platforms helped volunteers find NGOs, they left much of the organising and negotiating to be done outside the website, resulting in several calls by the website’s owners to the NGOs to make the volunteering a reality. The idea soon evolved into developing an integrated platform that attempts to encompass all the stages of planning, executing and reflecting on the volunteering experience. The Volunteer Web: Helps individuals find relevant and interesting NGOs Allows individuals to schedule their volunteering in just a few clicks Allows NGOs to respond (accept/reject) the requests to volunteer Thus automating the entire system. The site also allows: NGOs to create short-term ‘events’ and long-term ‘projects’ - that they require extra volunteers for apart from their day-to-day activities NGOs to better manage themselves by creating an NGO Management System which can be used to log expenses, donations, and offline volunteering instances - for greater transparency and efficiency We truly believe that we can help improve the logistical issues behind volunteering at NGOs, making it much easier to make a significant difference about issues we care about.

Robots.txt Test
  • Your site lacks a "robots.txt" file. This file can protect private content from appearing online, save bandwidth, and lower load time on your server. A missing "robots.txt" file also generates additional errors in your apache log whenever robots request one. Read more about the robots.txt file, and how to create one for your site.
Sitemap Test
  • Your site lacks a sitemap file. Sitemaps can help robots index your content more thoroughly and quickly. Read more on Google's guidelines for implementing the sitemap protocol.

HTML Page Size Test
HTML Compression/GZIP Test
  • Your page do not use any HTML compression!
You should compress your HTML to reduce your page size and page loading times - this will help your site retain visitors and increase page views. If you were using compression, you could be compressing your HTML size by 81 % - from 33.13 Kb to 6.21 Kb which would further reduce your page loading time.
Site Loading Speed Test
  • Your site loading time is around 1.654 seconds and this is under the average loading speed which is 5 seconds.

Page Cache Test (Server Side Caching)
  • It does not appear that you are caching your pages. Cached pages serve up static html and avoid potentially time consuming queries to your database. It also helps lower server load by up to 80%. Caching most visibly benefits high traffic pages that access a database, but whose content does not change on every page view. Common caching methods include Alternative PHP Cache, Quickcache, and jpcache. Caching mechanisms also typically compress HTML, further reducing page size and load time.
Flash Test
  • Congratulations! Your website does not include flash objects (an outdated technology that was sometimes used to deliver rich multimedia content). Flash content does not work well on mobile devices, and is difficult for crawlers to interpret.
Image Caching Test
  • Your site is not using expires headers for all of your images. An expires tag can help speed up the serving of your webpages for users that regularly visit your site and see the same images. Learn more about how to add expires headers to your images.
